      Traveller UWP Decoder Update

Wed, 01 Sep 2010 17:44:57 GMT

Just a quick update, the decoder was borking over system names with spaces in, all fixed now.

New Traveller Game: The Quantum Dancer

Wed, 01 Sep 2010 10:55:52 GMT

Last night we got started with our new Traveller game, sorting out characters and homeworlds.

Set not in the OTU but a a galaxy of David's creation, we're setting on on board the haunted Type-S Scout, The Quantum Dancer to explore the edge of the galaxy.

I'll set up a page for the game to hold ship/vehicle stats and equipment for the group once we get rolling, but for now here are the homeworlds.

For Conrad (Levi )and Oleg (Gav) we have:

Labedad Alpha 0705 C482546-A S NI G

For the as yet unnamed Harvey character, we have:

Cipire 0600 B449698-8 S NI G

Once I get the UWPs from David, I'll set up a galaxy search box for this game too.

Traveller Search Galaxy, proof of concept

Tue, 31 Aug 2010 02:14:46 GMT

Another new Traveller tool for the website, it's a search tool to find planetary information.

Searches return UWPs you can click on to get a plain English description, they lead to the decode UWP page I update the other day.

You can search on any part of a UWP, most useful would be a planet name or remark. For example, searching for Green would return all systems with Green in the name, while searching for Ga would return all planets with Ga in the name and all planets with the remark Ga for Garden World.

This is very much a test of concept, it currently only covers a few subsectors of the Spinward Marches and Foreven Sectors. This will improve once I get motivated to enter more data, or talk David into doing some more of it.

As we create our own universes for Traveller games, I'll add search boxes for them too.

Traveller

    Tuesday Games

Mon, 30 Aug 2010 22:06:05 GMT

Tomorrow we should be starting a new late game, David has plans for a Traveller game that should, all being well, become the new regular late game.

It's likely Jak won't be about for the early game this week, so it could be either a start to planning and character generation session for Harvey's Kingmaker (pathfinder) game, possibly with some Zombie action on the side, or just Zombies.

Whichever way about things end up, there are games running all night. :-)=

Traveller UWP decoder updated, now useful

Sun, 29 Aug 2010 15:38:13 GMT

I've finally made the traveller UWP decoder useful.

It now has two modes of operation, you can access it with a link as before:

Emape 0103 B564500-B N I Ag Ga NI A G

Or just go directly to the page where you'll get a box like this one, where you can enter your own UWP and hit enter to decode.

As a bonus it now translates the remarks to plan text descriptions, to save you remembering what Ag and Ht mean.

I am planning more features, like a searchable database of OTU worlds, but all that is for the future. It's taken most of the year for me to drag my lazy arse back to this and add an entry box.

 Congratulations Zak and Crazy!

Fri, 09 Apr 2010 11:31:07 GMT

Congratulations to new parents Zak & Crazy, and welcome to the world the twin boys, Dexter and Vincent.

So gaming at Zak's is off tonight, I'm opening the bar here for drinks to celibrate.

Pathfinder: The Embassy, did all the new characters get a Trait?

Wed, 24 Feb 2010 18:15:09 GMT

Just something else I remembered, did all the new characters pick a Trait? The little half-feat character details from the Character Traits printout?

If not, you're owed one!

You can download a PDF of the Character Traits rules from here:

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Resource Page

Pick one and check it with Jak, as some aren't being allowed, or may not fit the setting and I can't remember which.

Pathfinder: The Embassy

   Pathfinder: The Embassy page updated

Wed, 24 Feb 2010 18:07:05 GMT

Updated the page for The Embassy, now it's become the early game and added all the extra players. Everyone who has levelled up already has their level 7 stats, saves and skills.

Pathfinder: The Embassy

  Pathfinder: The Embassy Page

Thu, 04 Feb 2010 19:33:19 GMT

Added a page for the current Late Game, The Embassy.

Always handy as a way for GMs to keep a track of skills and saves between sessions.

     Traveller UWP decoder

Thu, 04 Feb 2010 17:37:31 GMT

I've added a simple web based UWP (Universal World Profile) decoder, it should turn regular Traveller UWPs into a human readable description of the world.

I've turned all the UWPs on the Machine Parts Transit Solutions page into links that decode them. Which is much more useful than code only Dave can read. :)

Here are a few examples:

Traveller: Machine Parts Transit Solutions

Taveller: MPTS Inc Jump to Mirriam

Wed, 13 Jan 2010 20:12:29 GMT

MPTS Inc make their second jump, another two parsecs, this time from Penelope to Mirriam.

  Penelope 0503 C460642-4 I Ri NI De Lt G
  Mirriam 0303 B9998A6-A N I IWS A G

On the water world of Mirriam they met up with two new members of the crew, the Doppler Cousins, old contacts of Bradley.

So far Orion took a submarine tour, while Ansarii and D'Lombard made some contacts to sell on their dodgy wares.

Machine Parts Transit Solution: Actually tranport machine parts

Wed, 06 Jan 2010 18:04:25 GMT

We had the first proper week of the Machine Parts Transit Solutions game this week, six brave travellers making a two parsec mail and passenger run from Iderati to Penelope.

  Iderati 0702 A887798-C N I Ht Ri Ag Ga Cap G
  Penelope 0503 C460642-4 I Ri NI De Lt G

On the way exploring a derilict space station, buying some alien artifacts and trading in machine parts.

Here is a small plan of the ship, with character quarters marked on it:

Deckplan of the Maiden Voyage
Red Captain Christopher Bradley (Navy), The Baron WhitefallDavid
YellowLance-Corporal Richard D'Lombard (Army) Jak
Blue Fancy Walker Dr Manda
Green Sergeant Zachary Grim (Marines) Harvey
Pink Soloman Ansarii Addam
Cyan Jonithon Orion Levi

I'll get the proper stats for the ship up in a few days.

When we come back to the game, it's the jump to the high tech water world of Mirriam.

  Traveller MPTS Homeworlds

Thu, 17 Dec 2009 15:37:48 GMT

Just so you can see where your homeworlds are on the Traveller Map and what others known about them, here are the UWPs (Universal World Profiles).

Gloria 0405 D7738BA-6 Ri G
Hanjol 0706 C785453-8 S Ga NI
Whitefall 0806 B401110-9 N IC Va Lo

All of these are in the Spinward Marches, Gloria is in the Cronor subsector and Hanjol and Whitefall are in Mora.

To find yourself, search for that Subsector name and the four digit number listed is the Hex you came from.

To confuse matters, Mongoose and the Map use slightly different Hex codes, Gloria is correct for both but Hanjol on the map is in 3127 and Whitefall 3227.

Wed, 16 Dec 2009 19:56:43 GMT

Something really handy for Space Travellers, a Traveller Universe Map in the style of Google Maps.

How Awesome is that?

 General Beard this week

Thu, 19 Nov 2009 23:25:08 GMT

It's a General Beard this week in the early session on Tuesday, instead of the regular game.

The plan is to sort out what's going on in the FarStar game and try to get everyone on the same page.

Also Jak has a few ideas about games he's thinking of running that he'd like some feedback on, more on them later.

Anyone else with good ideas, bring them along on Tuesday, or email them to me so I can post them up here for people to have a look at.

Jak's Plot ideas, have a read of them and we can bitch about why we hate them Tuesday. :)

Hi-tech SF. Unknown Stars (stopping short of PL9 stuff, though some of it may be included):
You are explorers, going into dangerous and uncharted territory. Your ship (you can name and design it, just bear in mind that you will be the crew save for a few droids) is one of the best available, though there are alien civilisations with weird and terrifying technologies hiding in the darkness of space. Humanity has just developed powerful stardrives – powerful enough to pass beyond our spiral arm of the galaxy and make exploration of the rest of the galaxy both possible and profitable. New technologies can make be used to make your fortune (though a lot of that will go on running the ship) but there is a lot that can go wrong in space travel. Will you find the alien technologies that could form the basis for humanity's next leap forward, or will you find only death between the stars?

Mid-tech SF. Dystopia (around the beginning of PL6 with some PL7 elements):
You are freedom fighters, working against increasing government control of your lives. The shepherd chip was a device for paying for goods in shops, but it was expanded to include GPS, then a listening device. They cannot monitor everyone all the time, however. The shepherd chip was just the beginning, what seemed like a sensible method of preventing theft turned into a tool of the state, and the state turned nasty. As dissidents began to vanish and the chips became more and more evolved a new political underclass evolved – the forgotten. These unchipped few live outside society, with more and more members each day as it dawns on the people that government is not your friend. You will aid the railroad, meet contacts in the VRNet, experience fierce gun battles with vengeful police and wreak havoc on your opressors.

D&D (well, Pathfinder). Hexes and Black Powder:
The great divide between the Nature worshipping Druids and the Forge loved of the cities is rarely overcome. Most live their whole lives in some sprawling Metropolis or under a forest canopy, never truly understanding how the other half lives. Your prowess and steadfast willingness to do good have been noticed by some of those few untouched by prejudice and entrusted with dangerous knowledge – the secret masters of the world are coming back. You must fight these great pillars of evil by gun and by sword, by wand and by staff, lest they reamake the world in their own vile image. You will uncover ancient secrets, ride in airships and steam powered mechs, see the strange reflections of technology the druid-folk have made to compete and face a threat of epic proportions.

D&D (well, Pathfinder. An utterly inaccurate history, with magic). A Shadow Over Rome:
It is whispered that Nero is cursed by Saturn. That when he saw Rome burn and could not stop it his mind snapped and his divinity was lost. Such thoughts are treason, of course, none can doubt that the power of Rome flows from this son of Mars. And yet... there are still barbarians on all sides. The Goths raid from the north, getting bolder each year. The Huns scream their war cries and ride freely through the eastern territories. Vandals raid from the south destroying all they can of civilised lands. To the west the Iberian tribes rise up in revolt, and far to the north, across the sea, something terrible stirs in Albion. You are a crack unit of the Empire's most trusted Praetorians, an elite of the elite, you are sent on special assignments to foreign lands to quell rebellion and make them fear the Emperor. You will uncover devious plots within and without the Empire, see mythic beasts and monsters and fight the mad, screaming barbarian hordes.

   The FarStar updated

Sat, 07 Nov 2009 11:56:11 GMT

Thanks to a reminder from Zak last week, I've now updated the FarStar page with all the current character info, adding Levi back to the page and including Addam.

We should have the Goths back this week however there is no David this week as he has passed the Astronaut selection course at NASA and will be away for a few days at the ISS. (part of that is not true)

Star Wars: The FarStar

   Pathfinder PRD (SRD)

Wed, 19 Aug 2009 23:48:58 GMT

Thanks to Paizo, who are sticking to the open content ideals of the classic d20 system and have published an open SRD, called the Pathfinder Reference Document with all the Pathfinder open content.

Pathfinder Reference Document

Also, the PDF version of Pathfinder is only about £7, so it's well worth picking up at the moment if you can't afford that fantastic looking dead tree edition.

   The FarStar Updated

Tue, 18 Aug 2009 10:48:55 GMT

The FarStar page is all updated with the current stats of all the characters, other than Bow, I'll do that in the week once you've leveled up Crazy.

I've also removed any characters who aren't going to be making the early game, also everyone who is there now has a portrait.

So, we're all up to date for tonight's game.

Star Wars: The FarStar

      No Zak and Crazy Tuesday

Sun, 19 Jul 2009 19:12:56 GMT

Just a reminder for the Tuesday people, Zak and Crazy are away this week so no FarStar game.

In it's place I'll put together another Doctor Who .45 Adventure.

As far as I know, The FarStar should resume 2009-07-28 and the hunt for Moff Sarne can resume.

    What I Painted In June

Tue, 07 Jul 2009 10:34:12 GMT

I've been working away on other projects and I've not been keeping up to date with posting the things I've been painting, so this is a catch up post and I'll get on with posting new stuff as soon as I can.

Cybermen, New Style Cybermen, New Style A Red Dalek A Green Dalek Judoon Judoon Judoon Slitheen Slitheen Viscount Severn Duros Explorer

We have here Cybermen, Daleks, Judoon and Raxacoricofallapatorians. All from the now seemingly discontinued Micro Universe range.

And finally, a Duros Explorer, a repainted mini from the ready painted Star Wars Minis range by Wizards.

All of these are headed for Doctor Who .45 Adventures.
