This is fairly fucking awesome, the BBC are showing Blade Runner on the iPlayer this week.

I know it's been a while without it working now but I've finally updated my iPlayer search tool, the BBC changed the format of the results pages again which broke the old version.

Just replace the old lib-rf-iplayer.dl with this new version.

Now I can go back to forgetting Heroes is on Mondays and catching up on the iPlayer.

His Dark Materials on Radio 7 and iPlayer

Doctor Who is gone from Radio 7 for a while, but we now have the BBC Radio adaption of the His Dark Materials stories, starting last weekend with Northern Lights, to look forward to.

The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass are to follow over the next couple of weeks.

Shows don't tend to be series stacked on the Radio iPlayer yet, so listen while you can, each story should be up for a week.

The latest Doctor Who Christmas Special is now up on the iPlayer, The Next Doctor.

Good Fun, a great theme and cool monsters, nothing earth shattering, just a really solid fun. You couldn't ask for a better start to Russell T Davies final run at the helm.

I've mixed feeling about RTD standing down from the head of Doctor Who position, since the return in 2005 we've had some of the best Who stories ever, the comeback has been an undeniable success with him at the console.

At the same time, the best Episodes since the return have all been written by Steven Moffat, so I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens with him in control.

I guess we've been spoiled with so many good people putting our favourite show together.

Apparitions, complete series one

Right now on iPlayer, we have the complete series one of Apparitions, the Exorcist drama from the BBC.

From Joe Ahearne, the writer and Director of Channel 4 Vampire show Ultraviolet, Apparitions stars Martin Shaw as Father Jacob, a Priest and Exorcist and Rick Warden as Michael, a man possessed by daemons who sets out to break his faith.

Apparitions takes the unusual route for TV shows in that it features Priests that aren't fools or paedophiles.

The use of minimal and subtle special effects a really helps to keep the show grounded and gritty feeling, while dealing with bizarre and supernatural events.

All in all it's an excellent follow on from Ultraviolet, keeping the same look, sound and feel, but moving us on to explore another area of the same haunted world.

If you're the sort that likes to watch shows a series at a time, it's [spooks] series seven time.

This series has MI5 squaring up against the FSB, with KGB ghosts from the cold war coming back to haunt Section D.

Another great, but too short run from [spooks], hopefully to return next year.

As series two of the Eighth Doctor New Adventures is over, the Sunday Doctor Who radio spot is now filled by a four part story, The Chimes of Midnight. Set before Lucie joined the Doctor, for this adventure the Doctor is accompanied by Charley.

Alongside the Radio 7 Doctor Who, we have repeats of some of the more recent television adventures, well worth a look is the superb Blink.

As well as more stories from established favourites, the BBC have given us a few new shows to take a look at.

First up we have a remake of Survivors, the first episode was a bit weak, like a zombie movie without the zombies, but it picked up a bit from there so I'll give it a fair shake through the rest of this series.

And finally for now, a new Detective show, Wallander. Set in modern Sweden, but with a UK cast and performed in English. We have a documentary setting the scene and the first two episodes.

TVCatchup, web based Freeview

A nice addition to the iPlayer and the BBC Live streams, TVCatchup is a free (ad supported) web service that streams a whole mess of UK freeview channels live.

Strangely it doesn't include a catchup service as the name suggests, but it's quite handy to add ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 live streaming to the existing BBC services.

More great drama from the BBC, the story of Eddington testing the theories of Einstein and the story of both men during The Great War.

Superb cast, well played and quite interesting how science had to leave room for God as to not offend the religious majority of the day.

MI5 drama [spooks] has returned to BBC One and the iPlayer with a seventh series. The first five episodes are available now.

The theme for the series seems to be the return of Russia as a major player in international espionage.

Apparitions is a new series from the writer/director of the excellent 90's Channel 4 vampire hunting show, Ultraviolet.

More supernatural drama, this time about Exorcists and Daemons, but with the same visual and musical stylings.

The first two parts of Apparitions are now on the iPlayer.

Very strong start, I've big hopes for this.
