Bloodbowl: Shadownight All-Stars take on the Scimitars and the PackersWed, 24 Feb 2010 16:40:47 GMT
| Match | Cas For | Pass | Gate | Date | ||
| Shareef Scimitars | 3 - 0 | Shadownight All-Stars | 1 - 0 | 1 - 1 | 15,000 | 2010-02-23 |
| Tolbeck Packers | 6 - 0 | Shadownight All-Stars | 1 - 3 | 2 - 2 | 21,000 | 2010-02-24 |
Two more games for the All-Stars, sadly they are still to score.
First up it was a clash of the low raiting teams with Shadownight taking on the Shareef Scimitars. The All-Stars put up a better game of it, they still can't generate a scoring drive but did hold the Scimitars to 3 TDs, the last grabbed in the final turn of the game.
Game two saw the Packers roll over the All-Stars with a 6-0 win, however they didn't have it all their own way as the Shadownight offensive line killed off two Tolbeck lineman and used a chainsaw to nobble the Ogre, causing to miss most of the game.
2009 Blood Bowl League (Autumn)

All this pushes Shareef and Tolbeck away at the top of the table, with the Northerners taking 3rd place ahead of Shadownight on GD.
Bloodbowl: Scimitars vs BullzMon, 22 Feb 2010 16:42:33 GMT
| Match | Cas For | Pass | Gate | Date | ||
| Shareef Scimitars | 6 - 0 | Skadayul Bullz | 2 - 0 | 2 - 2 | 12,000 | 2010-02-22 |
The Bullz went into their first game against a lower raited team, but came away with the looser's end of the purse.
Both teams put in a solid first half, with favourable kick off table results building a lead for Shareef, but fumblefest began when the ball was kicked for the second half. From there the Bullz and Scimitars failed over and over to pick up or pass the ball, it was only the fact the ball remained in the Skadayul half that put Shareef in a position to scramble in a few more TDs and lock down the win.

Bloodbowl: Season 8 so far...Fri, 12 Feb 2010 11:55:10 GMT
I've been slack posting Bloodbowl results on the front page this season, sorry about that. The main League page is always updated right after the game, but I keep meaning to post here later and just not doing it.
This season has seen the Reds, Braaaiins and Klean go on hiatus, while the Packers and Hawks return. Also two new teams join the League, The Shadownight All-Stars and The Shareef Scimtars.
Results so far then:
| Match | Cas For | Pass | Gate | Date | ||
| Tolbeck Packers | 4 - 3 | New World Wenches | 3 - 1 | 1 - 3 | 35,000 | 2010-01-27 |
| Shareef Scimitars | 5 - 0 | Shadownight All-Stars | 3 - 2 | 2 - 3 | 11,000 | 2010-02-07 |
| Shareef Scimitars | 4 - 2 | Tolbeck Packers | 4 - 0 | 4 - 3 | 20,000 | 2010-02-10 |
| Shareef Scimitars | 2 - 2 | Northern Hawks | 0 - 3 | 2 - 2 | 26,000 | 2010-02-10 |
| Shareef Scimitars | 4 - 1 | Sixty Whinerz | 2 - 0 | 5 - 5 | 20,000 | 2010-02-11 |
Season 8 kicks off with the defending Blood Bowl Champions, The Tolbeck Packers, taking on the team that has secured every Trophy this year, The New World Wenches. The Packers heavy hitting play did some serious harm to key Wenches and proved that the Champs are planning to keep that Cup.
Match number two was the other end of the spectrum, with the two rookie teams facing off. In the first half it was looking like a close game, with the humans 1-0 up over the elves. But the floodgates opened in the second half as casualties and KOs combined with a lack of reserves started to clear the field for the Scimitars to keep running them in.
Game three saw the Packers take a surprise loss to the Scimitars. Some great inducements in a set of experimental Orcidas Boots and some well timed Lewd Manoeuvres from the Scimitar Cheerleaders, combined with some aggressive tackling carried the underdogs to the big upset.
Number Four was the first Draw of the season, with the heavyweight tackling machine, The Northern Hawks taking on the extremely busy Shareef Scimitars. The Hawks dominated the field while shenanigans and chicanery from the Scimitars stack of inducement cards failed at every turn. In the final turns however lady luck smiled on the newcomers and a last turn dodge-dodge-touchdown evened up the scores and took the game to a 2-2 draw.
And Finally, Season 8, Match 5 saw the Scimitars once again take the field against the Orcish Monsters of The Sixty Whinerz. The Whinerz for the first time taking on a team with a lower team value, started out strong, with some good fortune bouncing a missed pass back into the hands of the receiver in the End Zone for an outstanding Touchdown. Both teams put in a solid passing game with 5 completed each. However in the match of human speed verses orcish strength it was Scimitars clocking up 4 passing TDs for the win.
2009 Blood Bowl League (Autumn)
| Team | Race | Coach | TV | W | L | D | GD | CD | PD | Pts |
| Shareef Scimitars | Human | Gav | 1,350,000 | 3 | - | 1 | +10 | +4 | - | 18 |
| Tolbeck Packers | Humans | Levi | 2,440,000 | 1 | 1 | - | -2 | -2 | -3 | 6 |
| Northern Hawks | Chaos | Jak | 3,010,000 | - | - | 1 | - | +3 | - | 3 |
| New World Wenches | Amazon | David | 2,780,000 | - | 1 | - | -1 | -2 | +2 | 1 |
| Sixty Whinerz | Orc | Addam | 1,580,000 | - | 1 | - | -3 | -2 | - | 1 |
| Shadownight All-Stars | Dark Elf | Ian | 1,020,000 | - | 1 | - | -5 | -1 | +1 | 1 |
So that's Season 8 so far. The table is still mostly split up by number of games played, currently only the Hawks and the Scimitars are undefeated and only the Scimitars and the Packers have a Win on the table.

BLAM in Wargames IllustratedSat, 30 Jan 2010 09:55:53 GMT
There is a write up with photos of BLAM 2009 in the latest issue (268) of Wargames Illustrated.
A few photos of my stuff made it into the magazine, my TARDIS console, The Doctor, Katie, Vic and K9 from our Doctor Who game, as well as my Goa'uld and a few Jaffa and from the Stargate 1895 game.
More photos of the minis are available here:
I'll try and get some shots of the full TARDIS interior up soon.
Also I wanted to make sure and credit Rattrap Productions for the rules we used for Doctor Who, The Brokers of Death used the .45 Adventure rules with the Amazing War Stories supplement.
One last note on the Stargate credits, that Goa'uld is a Priest model from the Crocodile Games Wargods range.
Chaos Cup Final: New World Wenches RetainSat, 23 Jan 2010 20:23:27 GMT
For the first time in our League's short history, a team has retained a championship.
| Match | Cas For | Pass | Gate | Date | ||

Freshly Mutated
#1 Sunny "Long Bomb" Lane (Big Hand)
#3 Britney "Sure Hands" Stevens (Extra Arms)
#16 Helen Killer (Long Legs)
The New World Wenches dominate the R'lyeh Reds to claim the Chaos Cup for a second time. Wenches took an early lead and held right through the game, killing Reds lineman Olob in the process.
Yet again the Reds show they just can't win a Cup, while the Wenches having won every tournament this year and are looking to get a complete set of silverware by picking up the Bloodbowl in March.

Semi-Finals completed and it's on to the Cup Final, possibly Saturday.
The Chaos Cup 2009, playoff roundWed, 13 Jan 2010 16:46:51 GMT
| Match | Cas For | Pass | Gate | Date | ||
| Sixty Whinerz | 1 - 0 | Real Braaaiins | 1 - 2 | 1 - 1 | 18,000 | 2010-01-13 |
It's a bit late starting, but it's Chaos Cup 2009 time!
Just the one TD this game, with opportunities for either side to take more but unending fail from both sides leaves the Orcs ahead when the whistle blows.
Next Wednesday it's the semi finals, Whinerz vs Reds and Klean vs Wenches.
Bloodbowl: Reds 9 - 1 KleanMon, 14 Dec 2009 13:23:06 GMT
A massive team raiting difference and two Blitz resuts on the kickoff table pushed the R'lyeh Reds to a 9-1 win over Squeeky Klean this week. Even the world's most tactically sound Rat Ogre couldn't help the Skaven grab a second TD.
| Match | Cas For | Pass | Gate | Date | ||
| R'lyeh Reds | 9 - 1 | Squeeky Klean | 4 - 1 | 12 - 2 | 34,000 | 2009-12-13 |
The game also produced the League's first Legend status player, scoring four Touchdowns and one Pass in his Legendary Game, #13 Kirk of the R'lyeh Reds crosses the 176 with style.
With that result, the League table looks like this:
2009 Blood Bowl League (Autumn)
| Team | Race | Coach | TV | W | L | D | GD | CD | PD | Pts |
| R'lyeh Reds | Dark Elf | Gav | 3,320,000 | 4 | - | 1 | +20 | +11 | +22 | 23 |
| New World Wenches | Amazon | David | 2,610,000 | 1 | 1 | 2 | - | -2 | -5 | 12 |
| Squeeky Klean | Skaven | Levi | 1,790,000 | 1 | 2 | 1 | -10 | -9 | -12 | 8 |
| Sixty Whinerz | Orc | Addam | 1,270,000 | - | 2 | - | -7 | -2 | -2 | 2 |
| Real Braaaiins | Necromantic | Jak | 1,610,000 | - | 1 | - | -3 | +2 | -3 | 1 |
Up soon is the Chaos Cup 2009, can the Wenches retain the trophy?
We'll have to find a weekend everyone is free soon.
Should there be no shift on the table and just the teams currently with a game be playing the cup would be, a playoff game between Real Braaaiins and the Sixty Whinerz for the semi-final against the R'lyeh Reds, then New World Wenches vs Squeeky Klean in the other semi-final.
We should sort out a date soon.
More Bloodbowl ResultsWed, 25 Nov 2009 15:26:45 GMT
More results from the Bloodbowl League. While the League page has been kept up top date, I've not been posting results on the front page for a while, so here is a catchup.
| Match | Cas For | Pass | Gate | Date | ||
| New World Wenches | 5 - 5 | Squeeky Klean | 1 - 1 | 4 - 4 | 35,000 | 2009-11-11 |
| New World Wenches | 3 - 3 | R'lyeh Reds | 1 - 6 | 3 - 6 | 38,000 | 2009-11-18 |
| R'lyeh Reds | 6 - 2 | Squeeky Klean | 5 - 0 | 7 - 3 | 32,000 | 2009-11-20 |
| Squeeky Klean | 4 - 2 | New World Wenches | 3 - 4 | 4 - 2 | 27,000 | 2009-11-25 |
Of special note there is the monster 5 - 5 draw between Wenches and Klean, a new record for the league!
These give us a league table that looks like this:
2009 Blood Bowl League (Autumn)
| Team | Race | Coach | TV | W | L | D | GD | CD | PD | Pts |
| R'lyeh Reds | Dark Elf | Gav | 3,260,000 | 2 | - | 1 | +9 | +10 | +9 | 13 |
| New World Wenches | Amazon | David | 2,610,000 | 1 | 1 | 2 | - | -2 | -5 | 12 |
| Squeeky Klean | Skaven | Levi | 1,780,000 | 1 | 1 | 1 | -2 | -6 | -2 | 7 |
| Sixty Whinerz | Orc | Addam | 1,270,000 | - | 2 | - | -7 | -2 | -2 | 2 |
Only four teams on the table so far and only a few weeks until the Chaos Cup. The Wenches have been the most active team with four games and the Whinerz are the laziest with two. Slightly strange to see such a high positive Casualty Difference for the Reds, but it seems that Armour 7 is finally starting to haunt the Skaven and Amazons.
Hopefully we'll see Braaiiins enter the table and have the first meeting of the season between the Whinerz and Klean over the next week.
Song of Blades and Heroes RulesSun, 01 Nov 2009 14:48:17 GMT
On the subject of Song of Blades and Heroes, I've already got the main rulebook, Dave was going to pick up Song of Wind and Water (weather and terrain) and Song of Gold and Darkness (dungeon bashing, magic items and more magic) and I've ordered Song of Deeds and Glory (detailed campaigns with expanding territory) which means that in a few days we'll have a complete set of rules and be ready to get a rolling start to our campaign.
SBH: Undead WarbandSun, 01 Nov 2009 13:23:33 GMT
Another project that people seemed keen on for next year is Fantasy Skirmish, using Song of Blades and Heroes from Ganesha Games.
With a little rooting through draws and a spot of rebasing, I've come up with an Undead Warband.
It's low on numbers but I wanted to use as many of the Wraiths I've collected as possible. I've a whole army of the Undead from an early 90s edition of Warhammer (before Undead was split between Mummies and Vampires) so I've got plenty of monsters to add to the Warband as it grows.

Projects for 2010: PiratesThu, 29 Oct 2009 12:20:41 GMT
Avast Ye Scurrvy Dawgs, it looks like we're playing Pirate games next year. Arrgh!
Make ready to set sail, the first port of calls looks to be Games of War to pick up the rules, templates and ships.
(I'll try and pick up a set of the rules and templates in the new year. But feel free to loot a copy from any passing merchant vessel.)
Then plot a course for these filthy rathole islands to pick up a cutthroat crew:
Then it's nothing but mayhem and rum until we all end up in Davy Jones' Locker!

During our game of Doctor Who at BLAM 09, "The Brokers of Death", and whilst playing some of the other excellent games put on by our fellow Lead Adventurers, I picked up on a few things that I'll change when we come to run another Adventure outside our normal gaming group.
Firstly I learned that while both .45 Adventure and Doctor Who are extremely popular on The Forum, it seems there isn't much crossover between the two groups. Here is a diagram to explain:

The lesson being not to assume that because a certain set of rules or setting are popular, that everyone will know what's going on.
Also try to keep things simple and set things up so they require no prior knowledge other than info you can give people on the day. In less that 3 minutes.
One thing I think we got right was simplifying the NPC character stats down to a single line, from the full sized tables used in Rattrap games. Those tables are great for players who are experienced in playing the game and want to see all the options available, but would be unmanageable for RPG type games with massive supporting casts.
A single player character or guest star NPC looks like this:
Raxacoricofallapatorian (Grade 2)
| Location | Base | DR | Wound Level | |||||
| Head (1) | BR=3 | 4 | BR=3 | BR=1 | Unconscious | |||
| Torso (2-4) | BW=3 GT=6 | 4 | BW=6 GT=6 | BW=6 GT=6 | BW=5 GT=4 | Unconscious | ||
| Arms (5-7) | HT=5 SH=4 | 4 | HT=5 SH=4 | HT=4 SH=4 | HT=3 SH=3 | HT=2 SH=2 | No attacks Cannot carry | |
| Legs (8-10) | DG=3 SP=5 | 4 | DG=3 SP=6 | DG=2 SP=5 | DG=2 SP=3 | DG=1 SP=1 | Crawl only | |
A murderous merchant from the Vesta family, looking to sabotage that conference by killing of his trade rivals.
Skills
Pugilist (+2): Models with this ability are expert in some form of boxing. Models with this ability get +2
to their SH score and attack with no weapon in close combat as though they have a club. They do not, however, have the 1" range of the club. This
cannot be taken in conjunction with Martial Arts.
Compression Field: Raxacoricofallapatorians can capture, skin and wear people as disguises. This takes two turns to complete once the victim has been killed in close combat. Once worn, the disguise is perfect and only detectable by the gas exchanger giving off a smell of Calcium Decay.
| Weapon | Close Combat | Short | Medium | Long | ||||||||
| Claws | 0" | +2 | 6 | - | - | - | - | - | - | - | - | - |
Where a group of extras look like this:
Unlucky Employees of the Conference Centre
| Name | Quirk | BR | BW | GT | HT | SH | DG | SP | |
| Captain Michell | Tired Veteran, ex-police took this as a quiet semi-retirement. Armed with a Heavy Laser Pistol |
3 | 3 | 7 | 3 | 3 | 3 | 5 |
![]() | Murray | Bored with this job, too smart for it. Armed with a Laser Pistol. |
6 | 3 | 5 | 3 | 3 | 3 | 5 |
![]() | "Doc" Pepper | Station Engineer, jobsworth. Armed with a Laser Pistol. |
4 | 3 | 5 | 3 | 3 | 3 | 5 |
![]() | Bernard | Slow of wit but quick and nimble, runs a lot as he's always late. Armed with a Laser Pistol. |
2 | 3 | 5 | 3 | 3 | 6 | 6 |
![]() | Mike | People assume he's dumb because he's big, but he's not as daft as he looks. Armed with a Laser Pistol. |
3 | 5 | 5 | 3 | 3 | 3 | 5 |
![]() | Sandra | Another jobsworth and a snob to go with it, mean. Armed with a Laser Pistol and rubber gloves. |
3 | 3 | 5 | 3 | 3 | 3 | 5 |
| Weapon | Close Combat | Short | Medium | Long | ||||||||
| Laser Pistol | 0" | -1 | 5 | 10" | +2 | 5 | 18" | - | 5 | - | - | - |
| Laser Pistol, Heavy | 0" | -1 | 5 | 12" | +2 | 5 | 20" | - | 5 | - | - | - |
All extras, unless otherwise noted have DR 4 in all locations which is normal for unarmoured people. Extras use the standard hit locations, any hit to the head or torso is a kill, any to the arms or legs leave them wounded and unable to go on.
Also included is a picture of the model and a character quirk to give them a little personality.
This really speeds up NPC use and generation and lets us run lots of characters without too much trouble.
Extras are similar to the 1/2 Grade or Hordes of Mooks rules from .45 Adventure, but even simpler and for people who are basically just moving and reusable encounter markers.
The game only had three NPCs with a table of stats, Weird Des the cheap Merc running security, Professor Goatse the Vorlon and our villain The Raxacoricofallapatorian. Everyone else was a one liner.
For K9, I removed the parts of the table that didn't apply, he doesn't have Arms or Legs, then moved the skills he still needed from them around the table:
Robot Dog (Grade 2)
| Location | Base | DR | Wound Level | |||||
| Head (1) | BR=5 HT=4 | 5 | BR=5 HT=4 | BR=4 HT=2 | Deactivated | |||
| Torso (2-6) | BW=3 GT=6 | 5 | BW=3 GT=6 | BW=2 GT=5 | BW=1 GT=5 | Deactivated | ||
| Motor (7-10) | DG=3 SP=5 | 4 | DG=3 SP=5 | DG=2 SP=3 | DG=2 SP=2 | DG=1 SP=1 | Immobile | |
The Doctor's faithful robot dog K9. The retro robot rover's computer mastery makes him a ever helpful companion.
Skills
Mechanic: Models with this ability know the inner working of machines and vehicles. By spending an
action and making a successful BR test, a mechanic can repair a non-working machine. If the item happens
to be an invention (see rules for Inventors) then the model must roll using half their BR score.
Language: Models with this ability have learned many different languages, both those still used and those long dead. When faced
with deciphering a language related clue, warning, etc, models with this ability must pass BR test to decipher it correctly.
Devotion: Models with this ability would take a bullet for the hero (master). If the model with this ability is within 3" of a
Grade 3 model that is wounded, the wound can be transferred to the devoted model instead (it is transferred to the exact same
location). If the wound kills the Devoted model, then the Grade 3 model can expend one Hero Point and take an immediate action
(even if the model already acted this turn or the model would not act yet because of its DG score).
Undying Loyalty: Models with this ability are devoted to the person they follow. As long as their hero (or master) is around
they won't run from a fight. Models with this ability never take a morale check as long as a friendly Grade 3 model is conscious
and still on the board.
Computer: K9's onboard computer allows him to access any computer system by plugging himself into it, once connected he can
access any information, disable systems or copy data on a BR check.
Laser: K9 has a small built in Laser, this is undetectable until deployed as his own energy signature hides the weapon.
| Weapon | Close Combat | Short | Medium | Long | ||||||||
| Laser | 0" | +2 | 4 | 10" | +5 | 4 | 18" | +3 | 4 | - | - | - |
As I was running as late as a late thing, I realised that the sheet I took with me still said Legs instead of Motor, but you get the idea.
Now that I think about it, I should have applied this logic a bit further and simplified the sheets even more, The Doctor and Katie don't need a HT score, as it's used for shooting for example.
In the best games players either didn't need to look at reference sheets at much after the first few turns, or even at all. Simpler sheets with no unimportant information will really help with this.
On Props and Hats, it should be a wig or hat for everyone, or none at all, they can be of various levels of silliness but it would stop people worrying too much about who has to wear ridiculous looking costume and who doesn't.
Both Props and Costume bits for everyone next time.
Last note is timing, I'd guessed, based on the games we'd played in the past that the scenario would take about 45 minutes for experianced players, or an hour for people new to the system. It actually took around 2 1/2 to 3 hours for a game.
This was mostly down to people having long conversations with all the extras, which is good in a way as that was the point of the game, to have a story based adventure rather than a shootout, but I think next time I'd cut the number of Extras down so Heroes can get to the Guest Stars faster, also find a simple way to mark out who is a Guest Star and who is an Extra. Maybe a sign with the story title, Starring and Guest Starring notes with pictures of the Stars and Guest Stars.
And that's about all I can think of for now, other than have everything ready by August so we have
plenty of time for any last minute changes.
I'll post up the full set of Encounter Cards, Guest Star and Extras stats soon. For now our Heroes are available here:

Bloodbowl: Autumn Week OneSun, 11 Oct 2009 17:18:52 GMT
| Match | Cas For | Pass | Gate | Date | ||
| R'lyeh Reds | 5 - 0 | Sixty Whinerz | 0 - 0 | 4 - 2 | 35,000 | 2009-10-06 |
| New World Wenches | 3 - 1 | Sixty Whinerz | 3 - 1 | 2 - 2 | 34,000 | 2009-10-07 |
Week One of the new season had the Whinerz pick up two games, and they didn't mess about, going right for the top two teams in the League, the Reds and the Wenches.
The Whinerz did well in the first half of the game against R'lyeh, holding them to two touchdowns, but in the second half the floodgates opened and the top rated offence clocked up another three. Sadly for the Sixty Whinerz it was 0-0 on casualties.
It was a much closer game between the Wenches and the Whinerz, but Wenches skill set and the Whinerz inability to counter the Block/Dodge combo and score those casualties secured a solid win for the New World Wenches.
